Putting the Spotlight on Ability
It was a privilege to be involved in Job Shadow Day again this year. The initiative, which is part of National Supported Employment Week, saw more than 500 people with a disability shadow a workplace mentor, giving them a taste of the working world and the chance to gain some valuable work experience.
Throughout the course of the week, I met with many inspirational people participating in Job Shadow Day. It was wonderful to see the enthusiasm and excitement as they embarked on their various opportunities - ranging from shadowing An Taoiseach and government ministers to TV and radio presenters, fire stations and football managers to busy cafes, local businesses and corporate environments.
